Where will the 10,000 Mile Challenge take you?

Gentlemen, turn your pedals.

Thursday, December 4, 2008

Almost Done!

Congratulations to everyone. Looks like a majority of us either have hit or will hit the 10,000 mile mark before the year is out. I have really enjoyed this competition, and will do it again next year. It's funny how stuff like this can motivate us to ride, and keeps me in touch with my friends. I hope everyone has a great holiday season.

Any ideas or comments for next year?

Kickin' it

It appears some of the troopers are still alive and kickin'. Tim isn't letting up, and Robert is finishing the year strong. Brent is racing all over (literally), and Dave should be hitting the target this week.

Good luck to the Icemen this weekend.

Autumn ushers in falling miles

Except for jerkface Tim who still put in over 1k this month. What a doink. The rest of us are either :
racing
working
burnt out

Cooler morning temps this morning reminds me just hard the commute is during the winter. I hate numb hands and toes.

They call him ...... Tim

Tim, using his powerful sorcery was able to nab the first ever 10,000 mile challenge. Coming in at just over 9 months! 40.3 miles per day!

Congratulations Tim, you receive our unibiding adoration, and of course the big prize.

(actually the only prize as I kind of blew all my money on 1st place. Sorry 2nd)

For all of your hard efforts you will receive the finest bottle of Whiskey this side of the Mississippi. Stranahan's Colorado whiskey. This twice distilled, small batch, finest ingredients available whiskey, will get you trough the long rides this coming winter. Make sure to share some with your friends, as you will be the envy of all Royal Oak.

By the way 2nd place has not yet been determined. The delta between Alan and Dave is a mere 14.74 miles! Unfortunately 2nd place only gets the acknowledgment of not being third place.

Is that it?

Only 9 months into the challenge and it might be over. I thought this would last to October at least! Who's on top?

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Seriously?

Tim Finkel. Holy Crap. 1566 for July. How can this man put in miles like this and still race strong? The world may never know.

In other news... Chris P. destroyed the Colorado Trail Race with a third place on is fully rigid single speed. Dave Nice completed Leadville 100 in 12 hours on his fixed hear. (has anyone else ever done it on a fixed gear) Shawn is getting his ass handed to him in the WinterPark Series with an upgrade to the Pro field. Tim is getting ready for his first 24 hour Solo! Herriman is coming on strong in the late season. And JIM P. surpassed the 1000 mile mark in one month for the first time! Brent is ready to rip it in Grand Junction! Alan continues the battle for 2nd with Dave. And AZ Chad is just under the 6k mark.

10,000 mile challenge: Hardcore
Tattoo of a chainring on your calf: Lame

Holy Crap, its August already!

Where did July go? I have been in recovery mode this month due to nagging knee pain. The massage therapist is taking care of it though, and I should be back on track next month.

For a few contestants (Dave and Tim) they are in the final stretch. Either one could reach the 10k mark by October.

Any predictions?

June results are up

Finally, a lead change. Tim has pulled ahead for the series! But Dave is not far behind, nor is Alan in third. Cruise, Shawn, Brent and Chad are dukin' it out for 4th. But we still dont have updates from Chris.

Apparently there is some other big race going on this month too?

Starting to show cracks...

After 6 months of continuous racing, cracks are starting to show. Whiskey Dave's head is leaking, Brent's pelvis is cracked!, and Shawn's knee is forcing a mid season break. How is everyone else fairing?

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

It's still anybodys game

A new competitor Alan joined us this month, with enough miles to put him in third. The next two months should be interesting. Dave and Chris hitting the Tour Divide are going to have ridiculous miles. And now that Chris quit his job, and Tim has the summer off miles will grow at an accelerated rate. Robert is on the mend posting a big gain, and Jim just posted his best month yet.

Total year to date mileage is 45730 mi.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Wow, thats really really really far.

30,936 miles. That's how far we have biked with our combined miles. If we were doing some sort of crazy 5 month relay, we have already traveled the length of the equator! (24,901.5mi)

Ride those miles like a red rubber ducky!

Ride them miles! April is at a close so let's see them numbers. I predict Cruise will make an aggressive move this month, but Fixie Dave may be tangling with 07 Robert after some interstate rides. Brent is always strong, but with race season full on I don't know if those big miles will keep coming. I am pretty sure Chris and I get the toilet bowl award for the month. And Herriman is back in action, but has a long ways to catch up. Finkel got in on the HIP 100, and is training for his first 24 solo, so we expect some big numbers!

Cruise is in

and not the crazy Tom guy. Cruise is a young lad from MI ready to tear it up on the road scene, just receiving is CAT 3 upgrade. Cruise is already hot on our heels with 2372 mi at the end of March.

Monday, April 7, 2008

And were back.

Looks like everyone came into march like a Lion! Dave Nice posting a big month with 1385, Chad 1123, Chris 1104, and Tim F with a magical 1234. Dave and Tim are neck and neck with a 100 mile gap. And Shawn in 3rd with 476 miles behind the leader Tim. Of course we still need numbers from Brent and Jim. However, we all live in the shadow of Robert 07.

So, with the 5k mile mark approaching, and ideas for a midpoint prize? Maybe a rad jersey, or some of Shawn's old shorts? Hmmm....

Race season is here!!!!

Finkelstein is in

A new rider will be joining us. Tim Finkelstein out of MI is throwing in his hat for the longest race on earth. Tim just post your numbers for the last two months, and we will see where you stack up.

I also added the 2007 Robert Herriman as a reference. Just in case any of us thought we were starting to kick some butt, Robert is the original butt kicker.

Rad Chad

I just noticed there was request in the comments for a new competitor. Chad is another enduro nut out of AZ. Chad, just post your miles at the end of this month for January and February, and your in.

Spring is almost sprung!

Fond memories of Pontiac Lake Time Trial...
and one of the few times I was in front of Brent. Then I was behind, then he crashed then I was on top of him. Those were the days.

This year is a leap year so everyone has 3 days left to pour on some miles.

FYI, Whiskey Dave is selling a very nice Black Sheep bike. If anyone is interested you can link to his blog.

Introducing MI JIM

Jim is a buddy of mine from good ol' MI. Like the rest of us, he is a bit out there. However, he is a more rounded athlete. Jim competes in trail running and snow showing events, even triathalons. Jim logged 402 miles this month. ON THE TRAINER!!! I am even considering breaking the rules for Jim, and giving him full credit. Any comments?

Huh?

Blogs are pretty crazy. The 10,000 mile challenge was sited at blue collar mountain biking dot com.

Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Anyone is welcome!

By the way, anyone is welcome to join this challenge. I just exchanged information with a friend in MI, who was not sure how to get in on the action. Just post your monthly miles and your in. Of course if you lie about your miles, then a jihad will be put on you.

1st Months Result are Ridicilous

Wow, what a crazy group of riders! Herriman, with the injured back, is not dominating as expected. His usual 1400 for January would of buried the rest of us, but now it is wide open. Whiskey Dave has established a nice lead, but Brent is close on his heels. Pivvay and I are battling for third with his century sneak attack this week.

What about the lurkers? Will Dolpp throw in some miles into the mix? What about Finkel, or Danny K even?

1/12 complete, where you at?

Well its the end of the first month, and I fell a little short of where I wanted to. I was hoping to cram 1000 miles into this month, but I ended up with 897mi and 59.6 hours. Not bad, but a little short. Now that it is February, I think it is time to ask my self "What Would Joel Friel do".

The problem with Colorado...

Is that it is just too much fun. I am trying to count snowboarding as cross training, but I really don't care at this point. Instead of the long 4 and 5 hour rides I used to do in the winter, it is now 4-5 hours snowboard sessions. It is just ridiculous fun.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

Have you started?

I have not kicked off my year the way I hoped. A chest cold last weekend kept me down from accumulating big miles over the weekend. However, while it is only the 9th day of the new year, I have not driven my car to work. Cycling brings out the OCD for tracking things in you. Not only am I now tracking miles, hours, temperature for the SWRS, but days not driven to work.

Colorado also provides great cross training in the winter. Heading out the door to ride to work in the dark and cold is really hard, but it is great to take the weekend to go showboarding, or snowshoeing with the wife.
