Let's put it to a vote
A major rule change this year was allowing trainer miles to count 100% as opposed to 66.7% last year. How does everyone feel about this change, and do we want to change it?
Arguments for:
Spinning on the trainer can be easy as you can adjust your effort level.
Those putting in their miles outside are braving all weather conditions, and are potentially suffering much more.
Arguments against:
The rule was changed to encourage more people to join the challenge. It appears to be working.
MI is cold. CO is sometimes as cold, but not often. Even though I enjoy nicer temperatures, ergo easier miles on the road all my miles count at 100%.
No one is making you ride outside.

I'm down with 100% trainer miles, I trust most people aren't going to sit for hours with no tension on the rear wheel. All my trainer workouts are hard and under rated mileage wise anyway.
Besides if we have to handicap miles, the MTB is worth way more than the road, snow more than the MTB etc. That's way too complicated :)
Oh and we need a 2008 archive post of the final graph/totals :)
I say trainer miles should be 100%.
Other points for:
- If you're riding a trainer there is no such thing as coasting, you're on or you are very quickly stopped.
- From a power perspective my mile/kJ is lower on a trainer
I can say that all of my trainer workouts from a wattage standpoint have been much more ass-kicking than any one single ride outside this winter. My weekday outdoor rides have served as recovery. My saturday rides have been for base bulk. And Sunday's as a changing variable based on need.
agreed with Tim...
It kind of stinks to go hard outside in single digit weather, so my hard workouts have been inside on the trainer.
I say just leave it how it is. 1 for 1. I don't ride the trainer at all, but all miles are different anyways. This isn't the 1,000hr Challenge. It is all about miles. I could go ride the roadbike for 4hrs and get 80 miles, but I would rather go mountain bike and get 40 miles in that time.
1:1 that's my vote. output is output even if some discount it.
i guess im in for this sh*t show.. jan all outside with late start and a weak of sickness....734 miles
